A scheme of optical orientation of nuclear spins by resonant laser pumping via hyperfine interaction is considered. The conditions are found in which pumping produces giant nonequilibrium time-independent magnetization that is perpendicular to the magnetic field. It is shown that a spin orientation of this kind makes a sample completely bleached for a laser beam. It is found that pumping simultaneously makes a sample bleached for any other radiation that fills the same volume and causes resonant transitions from a spin-oriented state to an arbitrary excited state. Using gamma radiation as an example, it is shown that in the case where the direction of propagation and the selection rules for the resonant gamma-transition coincide with the selection rules for laser pumping, the resonant absorption of gamma-quanta is suppressed, whereas induced emission remains efficient.
