This paperpresentstheperformanceanalysisofnon-return-to-zero(NRZ),return-to-zero(RZ),chirpedreturn-to- zero (CRZ)andcarriersuppressedreturn-to-zero(CSRZ)dataformatsinopticalsolitontransmissionlinkunderthe impactofchirpandthird-orderdispersion(TOD).Theperformanceofthesedataformatshasbeenanalyzedonthe basis ofcertainperformancemetrics,viz,biterrorrate(BER), Q2 (dB), OSNR,eyeopening,etc.Ithasbeenreported here thattheperformanceofCRZandCSRZmodulationformatisbetterascomparedtoNRZandRZinasoliton transmissionlink.Further,CSRZmodulationformathasbeenfoundtodeliveroptimumperformanceonthebasisof performanceevaluationmetricsreportedinthispaper.IncaseofNRZandCSRZ,comparativelynarrowpower spectrumhasbeenobserved.Besteyeopening,highestvalueof Q2 (dB) of18dBandlowestvalueofBERoftheorder of 1016 has beenreportedincaseofCSRZamongtheconsidereddataformats.Theresultshavebeenobtainedby varyingnoisefigurefrom3.0to9.0.Noconsiderableeffectofnoisewasobserved.Itwasobservedthatatverynarrow and ultrashortpulsewidth,OSNRvaluesuffersheavilyandreducedtoevennegativevaluesindB,thusinducinga high degreeofOSNRpowerpenalty.Theresultswereobtainedbyvaryingchirpfactorfrom 0.6 to+0.6.Negative chirp resultedinimprovedOSNRascomparedtopositivechirp.RZdataformatyieldedabroaderopticalspectrum, comparativelylowspectralefficiencyandpoorOSNRthusitwasfoundthatRZformatisnotsuitableforoptical solitontransmissionundertheimpactofchirpandTOD.
