In this paper, we constructed a low-cost acceleration monitoring system based on a rectangle cantilever beam (RCB), two fiber Bragg gratings and the light intensity measurement method. To do this, we investigated the minimum natural frequency of RCB and the dependence relationship of the strain of the measurement point and its change rate with respect to the acceleration amplitude upon the inclination angle of the sensor, and given the quantitative relationship between the amplitude of AC voltage of monitoring system versus the acceleration amplitude and the inclination angle of the sensor. Finally, we have finished a series of vibration monitoring experiments, and the experiment data are consistent with the theoretical equations. (C) 2015 Elsevier GmbH. All rights reserved.
