In January,the National Round Table on the Environment and the Economy(NRTEE),a federally appointed advisory panel comprising business,labour,academic,and other leaders rolled out a proposal for controlling greenhouse gases.Titled Getting to 2050:Canada's Transition to a Low-emission Future,the document describes itself as"advice for long-term reductions of greenhouse gases and air pollutants."The report,which said Canada could achieve a 65 per cent reduction in heat-trapping gas emissions by 2050,generated sometimes heated debate,then quickly faded from public discussion.
