The external radial forces acting on hydraulic and pneumatic cylinders are supported in modernmachine designs by means of plastic guide elements. Seals cannot fulfil this function. A new type ofguide strip with texturised surface was developed which stands out by virtue of improved frictioncharacteristics and long service life. The article goes into the functional aspects ofPTFE guide strips and the requirements which derive from these for new development work. Anumber of advantages are illustrated using measurement data.
