Unexpectedly higher natural gas prices breathed new life into southern Alberta's mostly shallow gas and coalbed methane (CBM) drilling programs this spring and summer. But even as many companies posted second-quarter production gains and fatter cash flows, some were caught on the wrong side of their gas hedges to the chagrin of investors.
