By mid-1999,the energy industry had started to see a rebound in energy prices and the beginnings of a turnaround from the bear market of 1998.It was a key year for oil economics-the price for a barrel of benchmark West Texas Intermediate has not dropped below US20 since.It was also an important year for Nova Scotia.The first-and only-natural gas development off its coast was commissioned.It was dubbed the Sable Offshore Energy Project,after nearby Sable Island,a shifting sandbar known for shipwrecks and wild horses.
