Evaluation of the present-day geoecological condition in the region of the prirazlomnoe oil field (pechora Sea)

The exploitation of mineral resources under the conditions on a shelf requires a preliminary estimation of its impact on the biota of the environment.An analysis of the existing background geoecological condition in an area as a reference level for comparing the possible changes resulting from human activity is assessed by the example of the Prirazlomnoe oil field (Pechora Sea),whose exploitation should be started in 2002.The conclusion is reached that the operations in the Prirazlomnoe area will not produce significant damage in the environment.
