INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL corrosion are a major threat to the integrity of assets in the upstream oil and gas industry throughout Africa. With operators focusing on effective production strategies to accelerate cash flow, pipeline integrity and the need for accurate corrosion monitoring of large surface areas has never been more important. There are many causes of corrosion today. In upstream oil and gas production, corrosion is mostly related to the presence of water, CO2 and H2S. In other applications, such as refineries, other types of corrosion may take place, such as naphthenic acid corrosion.
