Effective corrosion mitigation of downhole production tubing has been traditionally achieved with the use of standard carbon steel grades with inhibitors, 13% Chromium (Cr), or other alloy and stainless steels, depending on the type and degree of the corrosive environment. In the ease of "sweet, corrosion," which is the most extended type of corrosion in the world, 13% Cr stainless steel and inhibited carbon steel, have proven to be effective alternatives. However, the degree of corrosion does not always justify the cost of stainless and, when measured over the long run, using carbon steel with inhibitors becomes is even more expensive.
