Canadian producer Talisman Energy said its second-quarter profit fell 85% as oil and gas prices tumbled due to the recession's impact on energy demand. Despite weak natural gas prices, Talisman said it was increasing spending on promising US and Canadian shale gas prospects, which have become one of its core businesses.
