Major Forecasters Offer Divergent Views of Oil Demand in 2010

Forecasts of oil demand for 2010 vary considerably as uncertainty persists over the global economic recovery, but three of the most prominent prognosticators - the IEA, EIA and Opec - are projecting a return to growth after two years of declines. The Paris-based International Energy Agency (IEA) is the most bullish, forecasting growth of 1.5 million barrels per day, or 1.7%, based on GDP growth of 3.1%, a sharp turnaround from contraction of 1.2% in GDP this year (OD Dec.14,p5).
