Italy’s Eni Agrees Fuel-for-Crude Deal With Libyan Rebels

Italy’s Eni has agreed to supply Libya’s cash-strapped rebels with fuel to be repaid, eventually, with crude oil, Chief Executive Paolo Scaroni said on Thursday after meeting with Libyan opposition leader Mahmoud Jibril. The head of the Transitional National Council (TNC) was in Milan for talks with Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi and Foreign Minister Franco Frattini as part of a European tour designed to secure the release of billions of dollars of Libyan assets frozen earlier this year to stop them being used by the regime of Muammar Qaddafi.
