Since nearly 60% of Utah land is owned by the federal government, it is no surprise the state remains at the forefront in the debate over public lands access for the oil and gas industry. The national spotlight shone on Utah last year when John Podesta, co-chair of President-elect Barack Obama's transition team, said that reversing a December 2008 lease sale in Utah would be a top priority of the new administration.
