Peru: Initial tests by Gran Tierra Energy at its Bretana Norte oil discovery in Peru have produced rates that far exceeded expectations and the company plans to drill a horizontal leg in the same formation. The Bretana Norte 95-2-1XD exploratory well flowed at the rate of 1,170 bpd of 18.5° API gravity oil, on natural flow without pumps, for 19.65 hours without water on a 46/64-in. choke on a drill stem test over an 8.8-m (29-ft) interval at 2,868-2,877 m (9,409-9,438 ft) measured depth. With the choke at 64/64-in., the rate increased to 1,984 bpd, natural flow without pumps for 1.5 hours, also without water.
