It's only been just a little over six months since Nexen's last major accident, but the company's Long Lake oilsands facility is once again at the centre of breaking news. Thistimea mid-January explosion near the hydrocracker unit at the facility killed one employee instantly and sent another to a burn unit in Edmonton where he later succumbed to his injuries, according to the Daily Oil Bulletin. "Yesterday marked one of the darkest days in Nexen's history," Fang Zhi, Nexen's chief executive officer, told a press conference following the incident. "Ourthoughts are with the families. On behalf of Nexen and CNOOC, I want to express my deepest sympathy to these families."
