Kearl expansion starts up ahead of schedule

Imperial Oil recently announced the start-up of its 110,000-bbl/d Kearl oilsands mine expansion, much earlier than its original year-end target. "Completed ahead of schedule, the project benefited significantly from Imperial's 'design-one, build-multiple' approach, ExxonMobil's expertise in project planning and execution, strong relationships with Alberta-based contractors and lessons learned from the Kearl initial development," says Rich Kruger, Imperial's chair and chief executive officer.
