摘要

The level of rhetoric that swept through countless media channels—from traditional inky newspapers to Twitter, the green movement's platform of choice—in the wake of the January 31 release of the final environmental impact statement on Keystone XL offers an object lesson in what the Canadian oil and gas industry must deal with on a daily basis. On the one hand, we had project proponents, from TransCanada head honcho Russ Girling to federal Natural Resources Minister Joe Oliver, praising the thoroughness of the report (11 volumes, more than 3,400 pages, not counting five volumes of appendices) in a variety of traditional media, from our own Daily Oil Bulletin to The Globe and Mail, the National Post, The Wall Street Journal, and hundreds of other newspapers and magazines.
