Despite its rapid growth, U.S. tight oil will not eliminate the need for U.S. imports, including those from the Canadian oilsands, according to a new report from IHS CERA. Assuming minimal changes in U.S. oil demand and considering declines in conventional supply, the report says tight oil has the potential to replace only about one-third of U.S. net oil imports by the end of the decade.
