The Po River, the longest river in Italy, was contaminated by an oil spill in late February 2010. Taking no chances that the spill might result in a disastrous situation for agriculture and wildlife, Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi's government has declared a state of emergency, releasing funds to insure the cleanup is thorough and timely.
