Pengrowth Energy Corporation Pipeline Ruptures

A Pengrowth Energy Corporation pipeline linking a wellhead to a larger pipeline in the Judy Creek field, about 23 kilometers (14.3 miles) southwest of the town of Swan Hills, in northern Alberta, Canada, ruptured on 26 June 2011 causing a fire and spilling 1,000 barrels (42,000 gallons) of produced water containing 3% light, sweet crude oil in and around Judy Creek. There were no injuries, the fire was contained within several hours, and the salt-laden fluid was contained by booms and absorbent materials placed in the creek. Vacuum trucks and collection tanks were onsite to collect the waste. The 1.5-kilometer (0.9-mile) long, 8-inch (20.3-centimeter) line was shut in and depressurized.
