U.S.drilling activity increases 24 percent in third quarter over 2000

WASHINGTON, D.C.-Estimated U.S. oil wells, natural gas wells and dry holes drilled increased by 24 percent in the third quarter of 2001 compared with the same period of 2000, the American Petroleum Institute (API) estimated today. Oil wells drilled rose 8 percent and natural gas wells drilled rose 32 percent and natural gas wells drilled rose 32 percent for the quarter compared to the same period of 2000.
