The strong surge of exploration and production for oil and gas in New Zealand was counter to the global economic downturn that, for a while, also caused jitters for the general NZ economy. In the past two years there was the development and completion for production of the Tui Area, Pohokura and Maari fields - with NZ's production for 2009 expected to show record levels from existing fields and growth ahead with the Maari field.
