Engineer s for Trackmobile Inc. and Class 1 Inc. recently implemented I a CAN-based control network that addresses the complex issues of multi modal operation on a new generation of mobile railcar movers. Trackmobile began as an in-plant project in Harvey, IL. In 1947, Marshall Hartelius was assigned to modify an old industrial locomotive that had been used for years inside their plant. The young engineer was charged to find a way to move it via the road to avoid bottlenecks to railcar movements.
