The quantity and reactivity of the carbon deposits that arise on the surface of a Co-Mo/Al2O3 catalyst in propane cracking were determined. An analysis of the total amount of carbon and measurements of the catalyst activity were additionally performed. The temperature-programmed oxidation (TPO) of the coked Co-Mo/Al2O3 catalyst revealed the presence of two forms of carbon deposits with different reactivities to oxygen. The change in Mo content did not influence the amount and reactivity of carbon deposits arising on Co-Mo/Al2O3 surface. During temperature-programmed surface reaction with hydrogen (TPSRH2), only part of the deposited carbon was removed. A very small efficiency of coke methanation was observed. The application of TPO allows coke to be removed at lower temperatures than in the case of TPSRH2.
