General data concerning the production and theconsumption of zinc in the world and in inland industry andsome physical properties of zinc were presented. Severalexamples of application of refractory materials in differentprocesses of metallurgical and manufacturing operations ofzinc were described. The difficulties of exploitation ofsiliceous materials were indicated in case if they containsignificant quantities of lead. Some operations were proposedthe efficacity of which should prevent the early waste of theceramic facing or joints in the heat arrangements.
