The profiles containing, besides iron, 3 mass percent and 4 mass percent Mn and 0.8 mass percent carbon added in a form of graphite were subjected to sintering in a dilatometer in the atmosphere of pure hydrogen of a dew point below -60 deg C. They were fabricated from the NC 100.24 and ABC 100.30 iron powders as the main components of powder mixtures, into which manganese was introduced in a form of ferroalloys. Three types of ferromanganese powders were used- two of them were supplied from the ELKEM Manganese Sauda plant in Norway, and the third was fabricated at the TRZEBINIA Metallurgical Works. This study was aimed to determine an effect of a type of iron powders and ferromanganese powders, and of a temperature of isothermal sintering, on the changes of material dimensions during manganese steel sintering. These changes were measured by means of dilatometric technique. Analysis of the results obtained was made taking dimensional changes observed during sintering profiles from the NC 100.24 pure iron powder as the reference data.
