Ceramic products used in homes, hospitals, industrial facilities and other public places can attract stains, odours, and harmful bacteria caused by moisture, heat and condensation. The presence of bacteria can in turn lead to cross-contamination and potential foodbome illnesses. In hospitals, the contraction of nosocomial infections due to contact with surfaces is currently a topic of serious debate and research. Integrated antimicrobial technologies can provide ceramic products with continuous protection against microbes and extend the effectiveness of regular cleaning procedures. However, the chosen antimicrobial solution must be custom designed to adapt to the complexity of the ceramic production process.
