Although less in the limelight than other aspects of the e-revolution, colocation services (or server farms) are showing spectacular growth to meet today's exploding needs for Internet connectivity. The basic premise is to provide Internet access with a guaranteed level of information confidentiality, integrity and availability by sharing the associated costs between a large number of players (network owners, carriers, ISPs and users). Security is essential for such facilities and involves a number of aspects (information, infrastructure, access control, climate control, electrical power). Power supply security is a vital element and concerns UPS manufacturers in particular, who must adapt to the specific constraints of this new market.
