A new active imaging concept combining a CCD sensor, electronic holography and the techniques used in Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) is described in this article. If the geometry of the photo-detector matrix is known accurately, the position of the target may be determined within a given error bend. Extremely high resolution images have been obtained under laboratory conditions. The increase in the bandwidth as the aperture moves has been demonstrated experimentally and the conditions under which the pupil size becomes diffraction limited are discussed.
