The paper presents selected results of a numerical analysis of the screw thread rolling process performed on a C45 steel workpiece, The calculations have been made with the finite element method in a three-dimensional state of strain (the 3D model) and axially symmetric strain conditions (the 2D model). In either case thermal phe-nomena occurring during the process have been taken into account. The paper describes screw shape changes which occur in rolling. It also presents strain, stress and temperature fields, as well as the rolling force distribu-tion. The obtained analysis results have proved the suitability of applying the finite element method to the 3D model to analyze the complex process of thread rolling. In contrast, the 2D model cannot be used to analyze the stress and strain state occurring during the thread rolling process.
