The maximum gas bubble pressure method was used to study the influence of rare refractory-metal oxides on the surface tension (0) and density p of slags for concentrations of Nb_2O_5, Ta_2O_5, and WO_3 ranging from 0 to 7.4 mol percent or up to 25 wt percent at T = 1523-1873 K. An analysis of the changes in sigma and rho, the temperature coefficients d sigma/dT and d rho/dT, and the adsorption characteristics revealed the complexation behavior of tantalum, niobium, and tungsten in aluminosilicate melts.
