In connection with the difficulties of the processing of the tenacious gold/arsenic ores and concentrates and the other complex gold mining products by the traditional hydrometallurgical technologies (low extraction, contamination of the ambient medium with arsenic, losses of the accompanying valuable components, and so on), more and more attention is being paid to the processes of pyrometallurgical processing of these materials with removal of the arsenic at the head of the process and subsequent processing of the arsenic-free, enriched intermediate product with extraction of all the valuable components of the raw materials and the introduced fluxing materials (1-6).The preliminary de-arsenizing roasting using this technology is accomplished with complete removal of the arsenic and partial removal of the sulfur into the sublimates, which are a commercial product that is non-toxic and convenient for transport - arsenic sulfide (As_nS_m), which can be used not only for the preparation of small-tonnage arsenous goods and intermediate products in the glassmaking, radioelectronic, and steelmaking industries and so on, but also in the multi-tonnage production of preparations for the lumber industry in protecting wood and lumber against pests, and for the preparation of antifouling paints for marine vessels and shoreline and port structures. In the studies on this theme that were performed at Gidrotsvetmet (Institute of Nonferrous Hydrometallurgy) (Novosibirsk) and the "Khimii Morya" Institute (Vladivostok, Far-East Division of RAS), there was obtained an experimental quantity of paint, in which the sublimates from the sulfidizing roasting of the gold/arsenic concentrates of the Tokurskii and Nezhdaninskii deposits were used as the biocide. Research tests have also been performed on test stands at Rynda Bay (Sea of Japan), and the standard and the tentative specifications for its preparation and use have been issued. All this served as the basis for the issuance of a permit by the sanitary/epidemic service of Primor'e for the conduct of tests of the paint in the open sea with the experimental painting of a vessel.
