This paper gives the results obtained in investigation and analysis of the basic impurity (Pb, Zn, As) distribution patterns in a Vanyukov furnace during processing of copper sulfide feed. The dependence on matte composition of the zinc, lead, and arsenic among the matte, slag, and gas were consistent with analogous data for other autogenous processes. The amount of impurities going into the slag increased and that going into the matte decreased as the copper concentration in the latter rose. The absolute levels of impurity entrainment in the off-gas were lower in the VF than in some other processes, which can be attributed primarily to use in the VP of a highly enriched blast. The impurity distribution among the smelting products undoubtedly depended both on matte composition and on other factors: slag composition, temperature, and degree of blast enrichment in oxygen.
