Carolyn Genders should be applauded for a useful and well laid out publication that explores various processes of design from source material to final resolution, but she will be challenged by numerous enlightened teachers for her bold claim in the word 'new' of her subtitle. Nevertheless, this volume is a welcome and inspirational reminder to students of their creative opportunities. This is because the message throughout the book urges readers to open their minds to the infinite abundance of stimuli to be discovered in both natural and constructed environments from the large to the microscopic. The text throughout is supported by excellent photographic images and, in many of these, the camera, such a wonderful tool in the practice of selection, focuses on minute detail or else judicious cropping has eliminated irrelevant matter from the frame.
