Since the beginning of the 1980s, the so-called "minerallurgical" approach towards search for effective and efficient methods for industrial processing of refractory gold- and silver-containing ores has been widely adopted in both fundamental and applied studies. These studies straddle the mineralogy, petrography, geochemistry, physical chemistry, and geotechnology of the above ores (1-3). The new approach is based on a deep and detailed understanding of the structure of gold-bearing minerals, their associations, patterns of presence and distribution in them of noble metals, and the intrinsic structural and chemical causes for their technological refractoriness (3-6).To find optimal regimes for roasting methods that can be used to break refractory ores and concentrates, one can make use of the thermal gravimetry (7,8) (in combination with X-ray- and X-ray spectral microanalysis (9)). The thermal analysis makes it possible to determine temperature intervals where phase transformations and chemical reactions occur, as well as to evaluate the intensity and the degree of completeness of the processes involved (10).
