On the 80th Anniversary of Birth of Academician Yurii Dmitrievich Tretyakov

Yurii Dmitrievich Tretyakov was born on October 4, 1931 in Rostov-on-Don. In 1954, he graduated from the chemical faculty of the Rostov State University, having pursued the degree research devoted to equilib?ria in the water—salt systems. In 1958, after finishing post-graduate studies at the chemical faculty of Moscow State University (hereinafter, MSU), Yu.D. Tretyakov defended candidate's dissertation, where he investi?gated the origin of the high-coercive state in magnetic alloys by calorimetric methods. It was the time since which all the scientific, pedagogic, and organizational activity of Yu.D. Tretyakov has been inseparably related with the Chemical Department and then with the Materials Science Department at the MSU.
