Results are presented from the use of acoustic emission (AE) to experimentally study the dynamics of dissipative processes in the plastic deformation of different quasi-brittle materials. The results establish the character of the relationship between the lows governing plastic deformation and fracture and the dynamics of the main components of the thermodynamic balance in the dissipation of elastic energy. A new empirical thermodynamic acoustic-emission parameter of damage accumulation is proposed. The parameter characterizes the relative contribution of die rote of accumulation of latent internal fracture energy to total energy dissipation during the plastic deformation of the materials.
