'Poetry of astonishment' is one of the terms used to evoke the mystery and depth of Elizabeth Fritsch's vessel forms that move effortlessly between reality and illusion, their playful use of space, pattern, and form creating objects that are as intriguing as they are attractive. The retrospective exhibition, set up to mark Fritsch's seventieth birthday, provides a welcome opportunity to assess the extent of her concerns and the way music, the elements, have influenced her work as a potter.
