Ten years ago, my first Ceramic Review article discussed the development of water-based ceramic transfer printing. In the decade since, I have largely focused my attentions on printing onto glass. However, two years ago I was invited by A&C Black to write a book, Ceramic Transfer Printing, which was released this year. This was a great opportunity for me to reflect on my past work and to consider some more recent developments in ceramics and print. Reflecting on the last decade, it seems to me that one important change has been the introduction of digital printed transfers. The attractions of this method are the ability to print very fine detail photographic imagery and that you do not need your own printing equipment (as the digital transfers are sent to you through the post).
