Most of us use the term 'beastly' when referring to despicable human actions, implying that such uniquely human behaviour reduces a person to an onimal state. Why, one wonders, should we imorint our disgust and rejection upon something essentially innocent? Perhaps it is no coincidence that the poet who described a mouse as 'Wee, sleekit, cow 'rin', tim'rous beastie should also enjoin us To see ourseis as others see us'.
