Face to Face was an ambitious and exciting Extended Schools Project run by Sefton Council's Arts Development Team, as part of Liverpool's Capital of Culture 2008 celebrations. Face to Face involved sixteen artists working in over fifty schools over eight months, covering the subject of portraiture. The project culminated in a vibrant summer exhibition in Southporfs Atkinson Gallery. The main reason this project worked so well is that artists were selected for their experience and skills in such diverse media as poetry, music, drama, painting, sculpture, printing, photography, multimedia and ceramics. Also, Philip Wroe, Sefton's Principal Arts Development Officer, issued an open brief that enabled artists to agree and develop themes with each allocated school.
