Set up 25 years ago by Jim Keeling in the Warwickshire countryside, Whichford Pottery employs a team of 32 people, including the sales and office staff and five apprentices. Around six tons of clay a week are 'consumed' in the production of terracotta garden pots, made entirely by hand.I am the most recent addition and have been here for five moths of my two-year apprenticeship. During our stay we are encouraged to experience all areas of the pottery, and work towards achieving a Craft Pottery National Vocational Qualification.Life officially starts here at 8.30am. Today we gather in the kiln area for the Monday morning meeting, where appointments, specific production jobs and approaching sales are discussed. With the meeting over, all the apprentices take up their action stations helping to 'service' the pots made at the end of the previous week.
