Reaction of Chelate Complexes with Macrocyclic Ligands: Complexation of Porphyrins with Copper(II) Peptide Complexes

The complexation of 5,10.15,20-tetraphenylporphine (I) and tetra(tert-butyl)phthalocyanine (II) with copper(II) peptide complexes, Cu(AlaGly)Cl centre dot H_2O (III), Cu(AlaGly) centre dot 2H_2O (IV), Cu(GlyGly)Cl centre dot H_2O (V), and Cu(GlyGlyGly)Cl (VI), in DMSO was studied. The mechanism of porphyrin coordination by peptide complexes III-VI was discussed. The effects of the denticity of copper(II) chelate, the amino acid composition of the peptide ligand, and the nature of extra ligands on the complexation rate were elucidated. Comparative analysis of the effects of copper(II) peptide and amino acid complexes on the porphyrin coordination was carried out.
