I regard it a great honor to extend the remarks on the final issue of the Rural and Environmental Engineering (REE). Owing to your cooperation, REE has published 44 issues during the last 22 years. First of all, I would like to express a word of gratitude to all the editorial staff, contributors and subscribers, as well as, to all who have devoted time and effort to REE. As a journal written in English, REE has contributed to inform the international community about the scientific and technologicalideas developed in Japan. After this No. 44 issue, REE will be succeeded by the Journal of International Society of Paddy and Water Environment (PWE). This is the jump from a domestic journal to a real international journal.
