"Derelict Ships, Timeless Voyage," an exhibition of boat-inspired earthenware sculpture by Belgium artist Frank Steyaert, was on view through April 13 at the Northern Clay Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota. A former architecture student, Steyaert considers boats one of the strongest architectural forms because they are built to resist pressure. He sees similarities in forms from nature, such as an insect's carapace, as well as other human designs, such as the vaulting of a Gothic church, which in Dutch is also called the "ship" of the church.
