Sunny southern France and a film lover's thoughts turn to festivals. Montpellier may not be Cannes but to anyone interested in clay it is the film festival to attend. Since 1998 Montpellier has hosted the biennial international Film Festival on Clay and Glass. It is a popular event. This year over 2,000 people spent an April weekend watching some thirty films from China, Iran, Britain and France (to name but a few). We saw short films, long films and the occasional stunning film. Potters, people and places filled the giant projection screen. The ambience was terrific, with an audience - potters, enthusiasts and film makers - all united by their passion for ceramics. Alex McErlain was there for the first time with a film about Claire Curneen and he was astonished by the number of films and people present.
