Estimation of Inhibition Efficiency for Carbon Steel Corrosion in Acid Media by Using Natural Plant Extracts

The inhibitioe effect of Allium Sativum (AS), Juglans Regia (JR) and Pogostemon Cablin (PC) plant extracts on the corrosion of steel in aqueous solution of IN sulphuric acid was investigated by potentiodynamic polarization and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) techniques. Potentiodynamic polarization curves indicated that all the studied plant extracts act as mixed-type inhibitors. EIS measurements showed that the corrosion process is under activation control. The values of inhibition efficiency of the extract obtained from both impedance and polarization measurements were in agreement and in most cases were found to increase with increasing concentration of the extract with the exception of JR extract. The obtained results showed that the AS extract could serve as an effective inhibitor for the corrosion of steel in acid media.
