This was my fifth visit to the film festival in Montpellier, France, so I knew roughly what to expect. It's very much like listening to Radio 4 -fairly diverse films never long enough to get the viewer really bored even if the subject is of no interest or not to one's taste. This year it was even more so, as after sixteen years (eight festivals), the event has changed its name and profile to include films on crafts other than ceramics and glass. I guess it was a natural progression - after all the festival started in 1998 showing films exclusively on ceramics, and then added glass-making in 2006, so another eight years later, the time had come to widen the scope yet again.
