For many, flash photography involves putting a speedlight on the hot shoe, setting the camera to P', the flash on full auto and letting the electronics work their magic to establish optimum conditions. This technique doesn't yield the most dynamic results, however, and a comprehensive understanding of the relationship between lighting, subject and environment is crucial in creating superior photographic images.
